Hysterie TheatER

Female led theatre company based in Berlin producing original work.

The term Hysterie (english: hysteria) has a controversial history that kept changing over time. In ancient Greek “hystera” meant “womb”. For centuries, hysteria was thought to be a female illness associated with symptoms such as anxiety, anger, fainting and insomnia. Today, “hysteria” is mostly used metaphorically to describe uncontrollable emotional reactions.

OUR VISION

At Hysterie Theater we explore how concepts change over time. Putting familiar concepts into unfamiliar environments. What changes when you take something, - a word, a trend, a person- and place it in a different context?

We foster bold, original stories that pack a punch and value creative collaboration.

We live in hysterical times and we are not afraid to be in the present, in the theatre, where we can all laugh, cry and scream together with our hands waving aimlessly around us.
